Vichères-Liddes is about 55 minutes from Montreux and only 20 minutes from Martigny, the Great St. Bernard Pass and the Aosta Valley in Italy. Vichères-Liddes is a small paradise for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts, with its mountains, ski resort, varied hiking trails and nature reserves.
Our spacious chalet "Relais de Dranse", renovated in 2014, is situated in Liddes, in a wonderfully quiet location on the Dranse, a headstream of the river Rhone, about 5 minutes below the pass road to the Aosta Valley in Italy. Sprawling countryside and no passing traffic make it absolutely perfect for relaxed language stay in the Valaisian Alps!
The region around the Great St. Bernhard
The Great St. Bernhard Pass has been connecting the north and south of Europe for thousands of years. The region saw numerous pilgrims pas through on their way to Rome, as well as traders and soldiers, including Napoleon's army, who marched to Marengo around 1800. Liddes is situated on a magnificent viewpoint, facing the rising sun at the entrance of the nature reserve, “Combe de l'A“.
The Dranse (Dranze)
The 25 km long spring river Dranse d'Entremont has its origin in the area of the Great St. Bernhard Pass. It flows northwards and is collected in Lake Toules for energy production. The Dranse d'Entremont crosses a height difference of 800m in the Val d'Entremont, west of the Grand Combin.
